Transformers with expansion tank
To limit the previous disadvantages, an expansion tank limits the air/oil contact and absorbs the overpressure.
However the dielectric continues to oxidise and take in water. the addition of a desiccant breather limits this phenomenon but requires regular maintenance.

Расширитель трансформатора
Расширитель служит для локализации (компенсации) колебаний уровня масла в трансформаторе при изменении температуры. Кроме того, он уменьшает площадь соприкосновения с воздухом открытой поверхности масла и, следовательно, защищает масло от преждевременного окисления кислородом. Расширитель представляет собой металлический цилиндр, соединенный с баком трубопроводом. Существуют герметизированные трансформаторы с азотной защитой, у которых пространство между поверхностью масла и верхней стенкой расширителя заполнено азотом. Расширители устанавливают на трансформаторах напряжением 6 кВ и выше, мощностью 25 кВ-А и более. Объем расширителя выбирают таким, чтобы при всех режимах работы трансформатора от отключенного состояния до номинальной нагрузки и при колебаниях температуры окружающего воздуха от —45 до +40°С в нем было масло (обычно 8—10% объема масла, находящегося в трансформаторе).
На рис. показан расширитель, устанавливаемый на трансформаторах III габарита. При нагревании масло из бака трансформатора по трубе, соединяющей его с патрубком 7, вытесняется в расширитель; при снижении температуры оно поступает обратно в бак. На торцовой стенке корпуса 2 расширителя установлен маслоуказатель 1 и нанесены краской три горизонтальные черты с контрольными цифрами: —45, +15 и +40°С. Это означает, что в неработающем трансформаторе уровни масла, отмеченные черточками, должны соответствовать указанным температурам окружающего воздуха. Другая торцовая стенка корпуса крепится болтами на маслоуплотняющей прокладке. Через разъем производят чистку и окраску внутренней поверхности расширителя.
Устройство расширителя трансформаторов III габаритаДля сбора и удаления осадков и влаги со дна расширителя предназначен отстойник 10 с отверстием, закрываемым пробкой 9 и служащим также для слива масла из расширителя. Изменение в расширителе уровня масла, а следовательно, его объема компенсируется атмосферным воздухом, поступающим в расширитель из окружающей среды через осушитель, подсоединяемый к патрубку 6. Отверстие с пробкой 5 предназначено для заполнения расширителя маслом, кольца 3 — для подъема, патрубок 4 — для соединения с предохранительной трубой. Чтобы осадки не попадали в трансформатор со дна расширителя, конец патрубка 7 выступает внутри расширителя на 50—60 мм.
Расширитель устанавливают немного выше уровня крышки 6 трансформатора с помощью опорных пластин 12, которые приварены к кронштейнам 11, закрепляемым на крышке болтами.[http://forca.ru/spravka/spravka/rasshiritel-transformatora.html]
